Long before coming a mom I was a lover of dry shampoo. Since becoming a mom though, it has become a necessity. There are days that I just don't have time (or the energy) to wash and dry my hair. I always thought dry shampoo couldn't be that good for me, but I pushed that thought away because I couldn't imagine life without it. That is until my cousin Heather posted a recipe for homemade dry shampoo! She is a Young Living rep and posts Make It Monday recipes on her Instagram (go check her out here). She posted this a few weeks back and I knew I had to make it. I find it's always easier to trust a product when someone you know backs it up - which is exactly why I am re-sharing this recipe!
I am slowly trying to transition to a chemical free home, and I knew dry shampoo had to go. Did you know your scalp is 10x more absorbent than the rest of your skin?? I did not. I was spraying so many chemicals (including butane!) all over my scalp and not thinking twice. This homemade recipe includes Young Living Essential Oils, which not only make it smell good but also have added benefits. Lavender essential oil is calming and Purification essential oil eliminates bad odors and includes Tea Tree oil which has antibacterial, antiseptic, and antioxidant properties. You can really use any combination of oils you would like for their unique benefits. If you have any interest in buying oils, Young Living is the way to go. They are the most pure oil on the market with their Seed to Seal process. If you want more info about them send me a message!
This super easy recipe has only 4 ingredients that you most likely already have in your cupboard! No chemicals, nothing you can't pronounce and is SO cheap to make. See how I make and apply it below!
Homemade Dry Shampoo
Combine all ingredients in a bowl and whisk together. Store in an airtight container in your bathroom.
To apply I use an old makeup brush (pictured). I dab some of the powder on the brush and shake off any excess. I then part my hair in sections and apply to my roots. I let it sit for a minute and then brush through my hair and style!
Cheers to a chemical free home!
