A Little Background

Most of you reading this have known me my whole life, but for those of you who haven't, here is a quick update on my last few years.

After high school I moved to Australia to volunteer for a few years with Youth With a Mission. While there I really found God for the first time, strengthened my faith and figured out who I was in this life. I also got to travel and do missions in Thailand, Brazil, Chile and Indonesia.

Upon returning to Winnipeg I enrolled at the University of Manitoba and spent the next 4 years getting my degree in Finance and International Business. In my last year of school I started dating my husband, did a term abroad in Amsterdam and traveled Europe, accepted a job for the following year in Toronto in Investment Banking, came back to Winnipeg to finish my degree, made numerous road trips down to Des Moines where Jason was playing hockey at the time, and got engaged (in Hawaii with dolphins!). Needless to say it was a busy and exciting year!

I spent the next year working in Investment Banking in Toronto while Jason played his first year of college hockey at RPI. We got married in Winnipeg on September 7, 2013 and on September 8th we were honeymooning in Troy! (We eventually got our honeymoon on his week off over Christmas in Mexico). We spent the next 3 years in Troy together while Jason finished his degree. I can't say I ever expected to be going back to college life, but let me tell you it's a lot more fun when you don't have to actually go to any classes (except somehow I got roped into doing homework...).

We decided before Jason's senior year that we were ready to grow our little family! That meant I was pregnant living on a college campus, making it even harder to “blend” in. At the end of his college hockey season Jason signed with the Buffalo Sabres, who he had been traded to from the Winnipeg Jets the year prior. This meant we got to live in a hotel for a month in Buffalo while I was in my last month of pregnancy. Maids, eating out, hotel pool – I was living any pregnant girls dream. He got his first ever NHL game on April 9th, and he was lucky enough to have many family and friends there watching! It is a day none of us will ever forget. Seeing someone's dream come true has got to be one of the best feelings in the world!

We got back to Troy mid April and Jason finished up his classes. Everly York was born in Troy on May 19th, six days late (longest 6 days of my life). Then Jason graduated on May 28th and Everly took her first flight to Winnipeg on June 1st. We spent the summer in Winnipeg with family and friends which was such a blessing because we got lots of help with a new baby and everyone got to see her grow and change so much in those first few months!

That is what brought me to start this blog! Hockey season is about to start and we are away from home again. With our adventures in hockey and little Everly growing up, I figured I would document our life on here for us to stay connected with the people we love!

Best,

Stacey
