Healthy Chia Berry Jam

Jam was a childhood staple for me, but with all of the added sugar and preservatives it had to go. I'm really not good at saying goodbyes, so I set out to find a healthy alternative I could replace it with. I remember seeing someone post about using chia seeds to make jam and I knew I had to try it out. This jam is so easy and made with just 3 ingredients!

Chia seeds provide you with omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, protein, fiber and calcium, just to name a few. I love incorporating chia seeds into my diet, as they help my hair and nails grow (and keep me regular). I use this jam in my oatmeal, top my yogurt with it or have it on my waffles. I also feed it to Everly! I can feel good about giving this to her because it's all natural and she loves it! See how I make this jam below.

Healthy Chia Berry Jam

Makes: ~ 1 1/2 cups

Total Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of frozen berries (I have used mixed berries, raspberries and strawberries)

  • 1/4 cup water

  • 1/4 cup chia seeds

  • Optional: you can add honey, maple syrup or stevia if you want it sweeter

Instructions:

1. Put the berries and water in a small pot on the stove over med-high heat. Let them cook down until no longer frozen.

2. Remove from the heat and mash with a fork or potato masher until you reach the consistency you would like.

3. Next add in the chia seeds and stir to combine. Let sit on the stove top until cooled and then store in a mason jar in the fridge.
